10 Ways To Promote Your Content and Build Your Audience – Part 3

By Charles George Leave a Comment

“My site doesn’t have a lot of traffic right now.” are the exact words I heard during our conversation. My response, “Your site doesn’t need a lot of traffic to be successful. It just needs the right type of people visiting your site. You only need your ideal clients visiting your site.”

Over the last three weeks, I have been talking about how a blog builds traffic and authority.

Last week we talked about How to Quickly Create Content to Build an Audience.

This week is about how to get traffic to your blog with the content you are creating.

Getting traffic to your site is critical. The good news is there is no shortage of traffic today. There are so many different ways to get your ideal customer visiting your site. Any traffic method can help you build an audience. But it is better to have multiple sources of traffic that are bringing your ideal audience to your site.

Free Ways to Build Your Traffic

Email Marketing– email marketing is one of the best ways to increase traffic on your website. This can be from newsletters and promotional emails that you send. Plus, people that visit your site from your email list are more qualified and have a higher value than a first-time visitor.

Syndicating Content– Syndicating content is when articles that you write are posted on other websites. Each article can drive traffic to your site, build a following, establish your expertise and increase the size of your email list.

Guest Posting on Other Sites– Guest posting on other sites is like syndicating content except you create specific content for someone else’s site. So instead of having an article that was originally posted on your site and then republished on other sites, you create an article specifically for a site that already attracts your ideal audience.

Social Media Sharing– Sharing your content on social media, can drive traffic to your site, plus that builds that social media channel’s audience.

Email Swaps – Email swaps are one of my favorite free ways to get traffic. An email swap is when you promote someone’s product to your email list, and they promote your product to their list.

Email swaps are a fantastic way to build your audience and email list. Plus, swaps can be negotiated. For instance, you can offer a service or a two for one swap, or any other deal that you can negotiate, as long as both parties agree to the deal.

Paid Media Buys to Increase Traffic

Facebook Ads – Facebook ads are one of my favorite ways to build traffic on a site. You can promote a blog post, a video, or even send people straight to a landing page asking them to opt-in for a free download. All of these methods work for driving traffic to your site, building your audience, and establishing your expertise and authority.

Dedicated Email Buys – Dedicated emails are when you promote your offer, either a lead magnet or a product, to another email list. Normally these emails are between 100 and 400 words and promote one specific product. Media buys for dedicated emails are normally sold on either a per thousand basis or a flat rate.

For instance, if the email list that you want to promote your product has 40,000 subscribers, and the company charges $65/M (per thousand subscribers), then it would be $2,600 to promote your product. If that campaign produced 500 email subscribers, then each subscriber would cost $5.20.

If each subscriber on your email list is worth $7.00, then you earn $1.80 per subscriber over time. So, even though it cost $2,600 to get those 500 subscribers, you know over time that those 500 subscribers are worth $3,500 or $900 in profit.

This is where understanding the value of a subscriber and the lifetime value of a customer is critical to managing a successful marketing campaign.

Banner Ads– Banner ads are like advertising in newspapers and magazines. The ad is placed either on a website or within an email. Banner ads vary in size. Some standard size banner ads are 468×60- (Full Banner), 336×228 (Large Rectangle), 728×90 (Leaderboard), 300×250 (Medium Rectangle), 120×600 (Skyscraper), 250×250 (Square Pop-Up), 120×240 (Vertical Banner), and 160×600 (Wide Skyscraper).

My favorite banner size is 1200×628. This is the standard size for Facebook ads, plus this image size converts well for websites, blog posts, social media posts, and it optimizes for desktops, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices.

Banner ads like dedicated emails are either sold as a flat rate or on per impression basis. If you are inserting a banner ad into another company’s email newsletter, then it sold on a per thousand subscribers or a flat rate.

Sponsored Posts – Sponsored posts appear on blogs or in email as content. But the purpose of the post is to promote a product or service. They do provide value in the content of the post, but the primary purpose is to build desire for the promoted product. Pricing on sponsored posts is like dedicated emails and banner ads.

Affiliate Offers – Affiliate marketing is another way to build traffic and sell your products. Other people promote your product to their email list and are then paid a commission on how many units they sell. Affiliate commissions can range from a 4% commission (Amazon) to 100 or even 200% of the products price.

There you have 10 Ways to generate traffic to your site. Some are paid and some are free ways to get traffic to your site. However, you get traffic to your site, it is important to remember to have multiple ways of generating traffic. This ensures you will always have a growing and successful site.

Today, there is no shortage of traffic, now go build your audience!
