One of my favorite quotes is from Tony Robbins, “What you focus on grows.”
This statement was accurate ten years ago. It was valid last year, and it’s still true today.
We have the power of free will and the power of choice.
We can get caught up in all the negativity, and uncertainty of today or we can focus on the direction we want our lives to go.
Right now, we live in challenging times. Many sectors of the entire economy have been shut down. To my knowledge, this is the first time, since 1918, that the United States has felt the effects of a global pandemic of this magnitude. I can’t recall any other period in history where the United States government and state governments forced people to stay at home. The virus has affected everyone across the globe.
It has affected my revenue in several ways. I have clients who paused or canceled some of their services, like managing Facebook ads, writing copy, etc. And yes, I have felt the effects of the decreased revenue. It’s no fun! ! But other businesses need my expertise, and there are always a variety of ways to help individuals and companies.
Instead of complaining, I chose to act. My goals are to more than replace the revenue and position my business, so it is stronger once we do return to some form of normalcy, which eventually we will.
A few questions that I answered are:
- How can I provide more value to people?
- How can my skills benefit more people?
- How can I collaborate with more people?
- What actions can I do that will benefit my business now, and once this pandemic is over?
Here are a few things that I achieved over the last few weeks and the reasons why I made these decisions.
Launched a podcast
For the last several months, I have been working on starting a new podcast. I’ve interviewed 6 people for the podcast. But I still needed to finish the podcast introduction, and then write the copy that describes the purpose of the show. This week I finalized the first two episodes, and now I’m waiting for some of the podcast platforms to approve the show. I should be ready to start promoting the podcast in the next week or two. Awesome!

Hosting an Online Conference
Online conferences are like traditional conferences, except they are entirely online. There are so many benefits from hosting an online conference.
Here are just a few of the benefits:
• Positions you as an expert in your field
• Builds your email list
• Can create multiple sources of revenue
• It is a great way to connect, collaborate and build relationships with other people in your industry
Last week, I decided I’m going to host an online conference soon. I quickly identified at least twelve people to invite to speak. I started organizing, preparing, and planning everything for the conference to be successful. Look for more information about the conference in the upcoming weeks.
Email List Building Club
Back at the end of 2019, I mentioned to a group of fellow writers and entrepreneurs about starting an Email List Building Club. The purpose of the club would be to teach members how to grow their online audience and provide accountability for building their email list. Everyone got excited when I mentioned the concept. So, that week I wrote a quick sales letter explaining the benefits of the club. I sent a couple of emails to a segment of my list to determine the demand for the club. To my surprise, people signed up.
When I sent the emails to the list, I was primarily interested in seeing what type of demand there was for the club. Once, people signed up, then I knew I needed to plan the content and build a site to provide better support for members.
The lesson is that I acted first to determine demand before I invested the time creating an online program without knowing if people were interested.
Now, the site is built, and I’m in the process of creating the content to teach members how to build their list. The plan is to have the Email List Building Club ready to go in the coming weeks.
For the initial members of the club, I gave them lifetime access to the club, plus I’m going to provide other value and benefits for being a charter member. This is one of the most exciting aspects of my entire business.
I’m chomping at the bit to get this going!
Building my email list daily
Every day, you can grow your business by increasing the size of your email list. Email is one of the best ways to build long-lasting relationships with the people on your list. The key is to consistently send emails to cultivate relationships with the people on your list. Remember to provide value and give people a reason to sign up for your email list. Sent two proposals
To quickly replace some of the lost revenue, over the last few weeks, I connected with other business owners who I knew I could help. I scheduled phone conversations with each owner and discussed how I could be beneficial. Last week, I emailed two separate proposals.
Entered a national competition for copywriters and marketers
This is another way that I was able to test my skills against other people in my industry.
Plus, it provided an opportunity to start building a relationship with the organization that sponsored the competition. Monday, I was selected as one of the finalists! I will know if I won first place within the week. Win-Win-Win!
Collaborating with other people
Relationships are the most valuable asset of any business. Almost every decision I made or action I took, over the last several weeks, was so I can collaborate with more people. We can accomplish a lot as individuals, but we can achieve so much more by pooling our efforts and helping each other in beneficial ways. More people can benefit, and more goals can be accomplished faster through teamwork than any individual effort can ever achieve. So, determine ways you can provide value, connect, and then collaborate with more people.
What is your focus?
Whatever challenges you are facing because of the coronavirus, is no doubt challenging. None of this is easy. But, think of things that you can do to move your business forward today and in the future.
What can you do that will be beneficial to others?
What can you do today that will benefit your business now and in the upcoming weeks and months?
Decide to take action and focus on what you want to grow.
Finally, I will leave you my favorite quote by Napoleon Hill, “There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge. Both poverty and riches are the offspring of thought.”
If I can help you in any way, please reach out. If you have some thoughts and ideas on ways, we can connect and collaborate, hit reply, and let’s chat.
Onward!
